DESCRIPTION:

Percentage of patients aged 12 years and older screened for depression on the date of the encounter or up to 14 days prior to the date of the encounter using an age-appropriate standardized depression screening tool AND if positive, a follow-up plan is documented on the date of or up to two days after the date of the qualifying encounter.

DENOMINATOR:

Patients aged ≥ 12 years at the beginning of the performance period without a diagnosis of bipolar disorder.

INSTRUCTIONS:

This measure is to be submitted a minimum of once per performance period for patients seen during the performance period. The most recent screening submitted will be used for performance calculation. This measure may be submitted by Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) eligible clinicians who perform the quality actions described in the measure based on the services provided and the measure-specific denominator coding.

SCREENING:

Completion of a clinical or diagnostic tool used to identify people at risk of developing or having certain disease or condition, even in the absence of symptoms.
